Happy Pride Month

Written by Lisa Neira and Barbara Bilello

As part of the LGBTQIA+ community, Pride Month is our favorite time of the year. It’s incredibly powerful to see people coming together as a community in support of love and inclusivity and to honor the people who have fought so hard for the rights we have today.

At RegentAtlantic, we take pride in supporting and celebrating everyone, every day. As both wealth advisors and members of the community, we have deep understanding of the challenges we face as a community and how these hurdles can impact our wealth, our identities, and our families.

We believe it is our responsibility to help our community design, build, and protect the futures we desire for ourselves and our loved ones.

We have significant experience in navigating not only the complexities that come with growing wealth, but also the family dynamics, personal challenges, and legal and cultural biases facing so many of us and our loved ones today. Consider that:

  • Only 15 states plus Washington, DC and Puerto Rico, have laws that prohibit health insurance discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity
  • Only 22 states plus DC have housing laws explicitly prohibiting discrimination based on the same factors
  • While there are many ways to build a family, LGBTQIA+ couples and individuals are not afforded the same benefits as heterosexual couples

These are just a few examples that demonstrate how much more complex and more expensive it can be for members of our community. At our firm, we can provide the insight and advice you need to make more informed decisions, while providing the planning strategies you need to protect yourself and those you care about. We will bring awareness to the unintended consequences of the financial decisions you are making or lack thereof.

The bottom line is that when it comes to financial planning, whether you’re single, in a relationship, or married, the LGBTQIA+ community needs to be more informed and better prepared. As Wealth Advisors and community members, we want to combine our professional and personal experiences to help you stay informed and to navigate your journey.

We welcome you to call us anytime. Happy Pride all!
