The employment score can range from 0 to 25 and is based on the rate of change over the past five years of Non Farm Employment in New Jersey. The score in any given quarter is calculated by adding 2.5 to the annual rate of change in Employment and multiplying the result by 5. Any employment growth rate over 2.5% per year results in a score of 25. Any employment growth rate below -2.5% results in a score of 0.
The home value score can range from 0 to 25 and is based on the inflation adjusted rate of the FHFA US House Price Index for New Jersey over the past five years. The score in any given quarter is calculated by adding 10 to the annual inflation adjusted rate of change of the FHFA US House Price Index for New Jersey over the past 20 quarters with a 1 quarter lag, and multiplying the result by 1.25. Any rate of change of 10% or lower results in a score of 0. Any rate of change of 10% per year or higher results in a score of 25.
Personal Income Score
The personal income score can range from 0 to 25 and is based on the rate of change of State Personal Income for New Jersey as reported by the Bureau of Economic Analysis over the past five years. Personal Income is income that is received by all persons from all sources and is calculated as the sum of wages and salary disbursements, supplements to wages and salaries, proprietors’ income with inventory valuation and capital consumption adjustments, rental income of persons with capital consumption adjustments, personal dividend income, personal interest income, and personal transfer receipts less contributions for government social insurance. The score in any given quarter is calculated by multiplying the annual inflation adjusted rate of change of State Personal Income in New Jersey over the past 20 quarters with a 1 quarter lag by 5. Any rate of change of 0% or lower results in a score of 0. Any rate of change of 5% or higher results ina score of 25.
Stock Performance Score
The Stock Performance Score can range from 0 to 25 and is based on the five year total return with dividends reinvested of the shares of companies with headquarters in New Jersey. For quarterly returns prior to June 1994, returns for New Jersey stocks are calculated as the equal weighted average total return in each quarter for shares of Johnson & Johnson, Merck, Honeywell, Chubb, PSEG, ADP, Beckton Dickinson, Campbell Soup, Avis, and Celgene. For quarterly returns starting June 1994, returns for New Jersey stocks are calculated as the total return of the Bloomberg State Index of New Jersey. The score is calculated as the annualized inflation adjusted total return for New Jersey stocks over the past five years.
